The National Brain Mapping Center of Iran was established
The First National Brain Mapping Center (NBMC) of Iran and the First International Conference of Brain Mapping of Iran were opened by Prof. R. Malekzadeh, Deputy Director of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health. Prof. Zarei, Advisor to the Health Deputy and Director of the National Brain Mapping Center of Iran, Prof. M. Tehranchi , Chancellor of Shahid Beheshti University, and Prof. A. Zarghi, SBMU Vice-Chancellor in Research Affairs, attended the opening ceremony, during which Prof. Malekzadeh delivered a speech on the knowledge of neuroscience which supports one fourth of the national medical products. He also pointed out that the brain is known as one of the most important and complicated organs of the human body, however, our knowledge and understanding of this organ is still rudimentary, despite huge medical and scientific advancement.
He added that establishment of the NBMC in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences can play a significantly important role to prevent and control brain diseases. He said that support and efforts of Iranian researchers can help to reduce the increasing trend of neurocerebral disorders.
Prof. Zarei stated that patients in this center will be provided with treatment services including MRI, CT Scan, PET Scan, etc.
Director of the National Brain Mapping Center of Iran said that brain mapping technique helps to easily diagnose 80 to 90 percent of diseases. This technique provides the possibility of data analysis via mathematical calculations and computer knowledge.
Prof. A. Zarghi also mentioned that development of research centers and inter-university majors requires the support of deputies of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science. Having presented a report on research achievements and accomplishments of the university, he pointed out that SBMU won the second place of research among medical universities of Iran as well as the second place of the university based on the Islamic World Sciences Citation Center (ISC).
